National Express is an intercity coach operator who operates throughout England, Wales & Scotland and is part of the larger National Express Group. Coach services are usually subcontracted to local operators who operate under the National Express brand and rules. The companies head office is based above Birmingham Coach Station. The company commenced coach services back in 1972.
When you travel with National Express you can take 1 or 2 medium sized suitcases/rucksacks and each one must weigh less than 20kg, in addition you can carry 1 small soft piece of hand luggage which must be able to fit in the overhead bin or under your seat.
Where luggage exceeds these rules, National Express will only carry it where space allows and may charge These charges are: £10.00 per item on a single journey (one journey can be multi-leg), and £15.00 per item on a return journey. Up to three chargeable items can be taken in the hold.
Collapsible manual wheelchairs and folding pushchairs/buggies will be carried for free in the hold.
National Express use a range of different coach types, most notable are Caetano Levante, Plaxton Elite and Plaxton Panther with stylish leather seats on most services. Each coach has plenty of legroom and individual air conditioning for a comfortable journey. Power sockets at most seats will allow you to charge, mobiles, tablets & laptops whilst free wifi on selected routes will allow you to browse, email and shop online throughout your journey or catch up on your work. Onboard toilets are also provided for your use.
If your on a long journey, National Express make comfort stops usually at service stations which have food & drink facilities, toilets, changing and shower facilities and a chance for those who smoke to get off and do so, as smoking is NOT permitted on any National Express service.
PASSENGERS WITH DISABILITIES
Most National Express coaches are now fitted with a lift or ramp to allow passengers who need to remain in their wheelchair, a much easier journey however not all of them are and space is strictly limited and we recommend calling the National Express Assisted Travel team in advance before booking to confirm availability. You can call them on 03717 818181 (daily 0800 till 2000).
They will carry your folded wheelchair free of charge in addition to your allowance described above

CANCELLATIONS, REFUNDS & AMEND TICKETS
You can amend tickets online via the National Express website or by calling 03717 818181 (24hrs a day, everyday). An amendment fee will apply so please have your credit/debit card details to hand. Please note that an excess fare will also be charged where a higher fare category applies. Refunds are not available on all tickets for example Funfare (the cheapest type) is non-refundable. If your ticket is refundable, tickets must be cancelled 72 hours prior to departure. A cancellation charge of £5 per person will be applicable.
